Sad Panda

I'm trying to...you might want to cover your ears if you're feeling sensitive....

Destash.

It's right up there in the four-letter word category.

It turns out I live in a teeny tiny, itty bitty, loud, no good, no space, apartment. It's quaint, I love it. But, the yarn that was all going to live in only one closet? Welllll, it's making it hard to get in and out of the house.

I decided that it was probably time to give some of it up for a better cause. Especially since I'm not really planning on USING it, I just like to look at it, and know its there. In the event of the apocalypse, or the wool-pocalypse, I MIGHT NEED IT! You never know. Yeah, it's cheap acrylic. Yeah, I hate it. SO WHAT! I MIGHT NEED IT.

(stop giggling mother, and put the phone down, you don't need to call a therapist, I am not a hoarder, and I'm getting rid of it, OKAY?!)

Well okay, I also had a little incident while hunting for a set of size 6 needles last night.

Truth be told, I don't need it all. Or one of about 7,000 other things that are on the dreaded LIST that I'm never going to finish for one reason or another. A lot of them are things I've just come to hate. While I'm more of a product than a process knitter, I've come to realize that just holding onto things in the event I might eventually maybe possibly could like them again is a little silly.

If anyone wants some yarn, holler. One knitters unloved stash is another's treasure, or whatever.

  1. You are a generous person, but I subscribe to the theory that she who dies with the most yarn wins. I'm taking over my daughter's room the second she moves out for good. Bwah ahh ahhhhh!

  2. If it didn't attack me every time I tried to pull out something I wanted, I would TOTALLY keep it. It just seems silly to take it all to GoodWill when someone who wants it can have it.

  3. I'm so proud of you for doing this. And I can totally see your mom picking up the phone to call a therapist while reading this entry... Think of it this way: donating the unloved acrylic to Goodwill could inspire some not-yet addict to take up knitting. And then we will have converted another one. Mwahahahaha!

  4. You are so BRAVE! My yarn group does a yearly yarn swap and it takes me months of putting stuff in there and pulling it back out to finally get a bag ready to go! I. Can't. Let. It. Go.

So, I'm not much help. But I do second donating to a school, thrift shop or senior center. You'll feel good knowing it's going to a good cause and it'll free space up for you.

Luv the drawings!! You're too funny! ;O)

  5. Love the drawings.. My mom would call me a hoarder too if my stash gets any bigger. I second donating it to goodwill or maybe a local Blanket America group?

  6. Am I the only knitter who isn't overwhelmed by stash? Mine fits in a single grocery bag!

  7. Rogue Butterfly- Yes, you are. I'm getting rid of a whole trashbag, and not one of those little ones either, and I still have a closet full of yarn.

PandaBearofDoom/Dawn/Lily- I'm donating it to a group on Rav that uses it to send stash love to charities and knitters in need. I figure this way it will at least get appreciated. :)

Dawn-I've found the remedy to that is to really sit down and think about what you're going to do with the yarn. If you can't come up with anything, INTO THE BAG! If you can, don't feel so bad about keeping it.
